The Seer Anointing Session 2

The “Seer Anointing” refers to a spiritual gifting or calling described in the Bible, particularly associated with individuals who receive divine visions, dreams, or prophetic insight from God. The concept is rooted in the King James Version (KJV) and draws from Old Testament examples where “seers” played significant roles as prophets or individuals who communicated God’s will.

Biblical Basis for the Seer Anointing

  1. The Role of a Seer
    • The term “seer” is a translation of the Hebrew word “ro’eh” (one who sees) or “chozeh” (a gazer or one who beholds visions).
    • Seers were prophets who often received revelation through visions or dreams.
    • Key verse:”Beforetime in Israel, when a man went to enquire of God, thus he spake, Come, and let us go to the seer: for he that is now called a Prophet was beforetime called a Seer.” (1 Samuel 9:9, KJV)
  2. Examples of Seers in the Bible
    • Samuel: Known as a prophet and a seer, Samuel had divine insight and anointed Israel’s first kings (Saul and David). (1 Samuel 3:10-11)
    • Nathan: A seer who advised King David and conveyed God’s will, including the prophetic word about the building of the temple. (2 Samuel 7:2-4)
    • Gad: Known as “David’s seer,” he received specific revelations for David. (2 Samuel 24:11)
    • Isaiah and Daniel: Although primarily called prophets, they had vivid visions of the future and symbolic revelations. (Isaiah 6:1-8, Daniel 7)
  3. Visions and Dreams
    • Seers frequently experienced supernatural visions and dreams as a way of receiving divine messages.
    • Example: Daniel’s visions of future kingdoms and God’s plan for the world. (Daniel 7:1-2)
    • Joel’s prophecy: This prophetic gift is extended to all believers through the Holy Spirit:”And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.” (Joel 2:28, KJV; repeated in Acts 2:17)
  4. Anointing for Spiritual Sight
    • The term “anointing” refers to the empowerment of the Holy Spirit for a specific task or purpose.
    • Jesus emphasizes spiritual sight as part of His mission:”The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind…” (Luke 4:18, KJV)

Characteristics of the Seer Anointing

  • Supernatural Perception: Ability to see into the spiritual realm.
  • Divine Communication: Receiving messages from God through dreams, visions, or symbolic imagery.
  • Discernment: Recognizing the meaning and significance of what is revealed.
  • Guidance for Others: Seers often provide counsel, warning, or encouragement based on their revelations.

Application in Christian Life

While the “seer anointing” is often associated with specific individuals in the Bible, the Holy Spirit’s outpouring on believers enables all to receive prophetic insight (1 Corinthians 12:7-10). However, not everyone is called to be a “seer” in the Old Testament sense, but the principle of spiritual vision and revelation remains vital for the Church.
